With a globally recognized brand, superior intellectual capital and a steadfast commitment to our culture, Akin is a forward-thinking environment where you can enhance your practice and better service your clients.

Our culture of talent development, opportunity, inclusion, collaboration and engagement enables all lawyers to learn, advance and thrive.

INVESTED IN YOUR SUCCESS

Our lawyers are encouraged to participate in initiatives that broaden their experience by undertaking firm citizenship and community leadership roles, working on pro bono matters and participating in Akin JUMP, which allows a lawyer to do a short stay in another office to deepen collaboration and networking.

Learn

We cultivate an environment of learning to allow our lawyers to excel as practitioners at the highest level. Our lawyers attend Akin's flagship in-person academies at key inflection points in their careers, sharpen their practice skills at hands-on trainings and have access to a wealth of learning resources.

Advance

We create opportunities for lawyers to achieve success and satisfaction in their careers. Our lawyers' continued development is supported by formal and informal feedback, in-house career coaching and a dedicated partner advisor who offers individualized guidance throughout their careers at Akin.

Thrive

We promote a culture of individual and collective achievement by building engagement, connection and collaboration within and outside the Akin community.

A Skills Framework for Associates and Counsel

The Akin Client Excellence (ACE) Framework outlines the core skills that our associates and counsel are expected to achieve at each stage of their careers—junior, mid-level and counsel—to provide exemplary service to our clients and to build a successful career as a lawyer. The ACE Framework is a modern expression of the way in which our lawyers have always practiced law.

The framework consists of three interdependent core skills. Under each core skill are four skills that clarify and make the ACE Framework actionable.

  1. Prioritizing Relationships – Engaging & Collaborating; Embracing a Growth Mindset; Leading & Influencing Others; Being a Firm Citizen and Serving Our Communities
  2. Delivering Excellence – Establishing Practice Area Mastery; Communicating with Impact; Developing Innovative Solutions; Building & Maintaining Your Personal Brand
  3. Taking Ownership – Understanding Client Interests & Proactively Addressing Client Needs; Managing Projects; Showing Judgment & Being Decisive; Expanding Business Relationships

The framework anchors Akin’s comprehensive lawyer development program, Akin Advantage, and is integrated into the firm’s recruiting and interview process, on-boarding and training curricula, evaluation and feedback program and advisor and coaching program to empower our associates and counsel to deliver exceptional client service and thrive in their careers.

Culture & Community

Commitment to Pro Bono

Pro Bono is more than what we say. It’s what we do. We are committed to transformational change, real action and accountability from the top down. Together, we work to make a positive impact where it is needed most.

Opportunity & Inclusion

Inclusion is in our DNA at Akin. Our firm was founded on the guiding principle that everyone should feel welcome and have the opportunity to thrive and do their best work.

Community Service

We have a culture of service. Among many other initiatives, we host regular community service days in the world’s cities where we have offices. Our lawyers and business services staff undertake volunteer projects at area schools, playgrounds and community centers. We roll up our sleeves to contribute to our communities in a meaningful way that has a sustainable and lasting impact.

We have hosted two Stand Against Hate campaigns, where firm members across the globe traveled (biked, ran, walked) over 40,000 miles to raise $50,000 for various non-profit partners.
