Summary

Following the U.K.’s recently published White Paper outlining proposals for a regulatory framework on AI, on April 11, 2023, the U.K.’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) released its response to the Paper. In particular, the response urged the government to involve regulators like the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum (DRCF) in producing joint guidance between the U.K.’s various regulatory bodies; to ensure that the White Paper’s AI principles “are interpreted in a way that is compatible with the [U.K.’s] data protection principles”; and to design its “joint regulatory sandbox” such that it could effectively “respond to the needs of digital innovators”.
