Impact of Midterm Elections on Contracting Oversight
In an article recently published in Thomson Reuters’ Westlaw, “Contracting Oversight: One of the Most Bipartisan, Partisan Issues in Washington,” Akin Gump congressional investigations practice co-head Raphael Prober, government contracts partner Scott Heimberg and litigation counsel Tom Moyer examine the question of congressional investigation and oversight of government contractors, and the possible impact of the 2018 midterm elections.
The authors discuss the history of congressional investigations of private contractors in the modern era and the impact that electoral shifts have on contracting issues, and conclude by offering five ways in which contractors can prepare for a potential congressional investigation.
The authors note that, irrespective of the specific outcomes of these upcoming elections, “congressional investigations of government contracting are certain to remain a constant.” That said, should the Democrats retake the House and redouble their focus on this issue, “contractors are well advised to take early steps to prepare.” Click here to read the full article.
