11 Akin Lawyers Named to 2026 IAM Patent 1000

IAM has recognized 11 Akin intellectual property (IP) lawyers in the 2026 edition of the IAM Patent 1000, a guide of leading private practice patent lawyers in the United States.  

The firm’s Pennsylvania office is ranked as a “Gold Firm” for its litigation work. IAM noted that the Akin team in Philadelphia “is well equipped to handle complex patent disputes, particularly those involving technically sophisticated subject matter.” The following Philadelphia partners were recognized:   

  • Steven Maslowski, head of the firm’s IP practice, is noted for his “experienced courtroom leadership.” 
  • Rubén Muñoz, partner-in-charge of the Philadelphia office, is noted for his close involvement “in shaping litigation strategy and expert coordination.” 
  • Matthew Pearson is recognized for his “strong technical depth and case management.” 
  • Jonathan Underwood is recognized for his “focus on complex patent litigation and strategic advisory work.” IAM also notes his “ability to manage sophisticated disputes and contribute to effective, business-aligned litigation strategies." 

In Washington, D.C., the firm is also ranked in the litigation category. IAM recognizes the firm’s lawyers for being “particularly adept at coordinating multi-forum strategies across district courts, the ITC and PTAB, allowing clients to pursue aligned and efficient outcomes in high-value matters.” The following partners were recognized:   

  • Cono Carrano is praised for his focus on “patent litigation involving complex technologies” and “his ability to translate intricate technical subject matter into clear and persuasive arguments, supporting clients through all stages of contentious proceedings.”  
  • David Vondle is identified as “a key figure” due to his “extensive experience in patent litigation alongside a transactional perspective that informs his strategic approach."  
  • Brandon Rash is noted for his contributions “to the team’s litigation strength” due to his “methodical and detail-oriented approach.”  
  • Rachel Elsby is recognized for “her practical, solutions-focused mindset,” while working “closely with clients to manage risk and drive efficient resolutions in contentious matters.” 

In Texas, the firm is also ranked for its litigation work, with IAM noting the practice as a “go-to for high-stakes patent litigation.” Daniel Moffett is recognized as the leader of “the firm’s Texas IP practice” and is noted as a “seasoned trial lawyer known for handling complex, multi-forum disputes.”  

Michael Kahn and Golda Lai are also recognized for their patent work.
