Akin’s financial restructuring practice has been profiled by Law360 among its Bankruptcy Practice Groups of the Year winners. Last month, Law360 announced the honorees in its annual series (learn more on Akin’s selection here).
In Akin's profile for this achievement, the firm is noted as successfully navigating some of the most complex chapter 11 cases, securing significant wins for unsecured creditors, including in the sprawling proceedings of Steward Health Care and the challenging reorganization of Diamond Sports Group.
Law360 notes that in the Steward Health Care case, Akin helped negotiate dozens of transactions to keep hospitals running and focused on patient care. In the Diamond Sports Group bankruptcy, the firm secured a restructuring support agreement that resulted in significant financial benefits for unsecured creditors, including a $13 million cash pool and new deals with major partners.
The profile also touts Akin’s dedication beyond traditional bankruptcy clients and highlights Akin’s pro bono services in high-profile cases for clients navigating through the cases of Alex Jones, representing the families of Sandy Hook victims, and unsecured creditors in former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s case.
Akin financial restructuring practice group leader Phil Dublin said the clients in these cases aren't as familiar with the bankruptcy process, so they require more advisory services and legal hand-holding, but the effort was worth it.
In closing, Akin financial restructuring partner Ira Dizengoff said "I think our group exhibits an infectious enthusiasm for what we do...We take our job so seriously and work so hard for our clients. It's just contagious about how vigorous we are in trying to seek outcomes that create value for our clients."
