Akin Gump Honored by Korean American Coalition for Pro Bono Representation in Koreatown Litigation
(Los Angeles) – On December 19, Akin Gump was honored by Los Angeles’ Korean American Coalition with the Corporate Luminary Award. The Luminary Awards recognize individuals and organizations who have supported and positively impacted the Korean American community.
Specifically, the Coalition recognized Akin Gump’s pro bono work on the Koreatown redistricting litigation, in which the firm represented residents of the city’s Koreatown neighborhood in a lawsuit to redress racially gerrymandered City Council districts.
The firm has been involved in this litigation for six years both at trial and on appeal. The Korean American Coalition described the firm’s work as “tireless and tremendous.”
The Akin Gump team working on this matter includes Supreme Court and appellate practice co-head Rex Heinke and litigation partner Hyongsoon Kim, senior counsel Jessica Weisel and associate Josh Rubin. Mr. Heinke accepted the award on behalf of the firm and the team.
The Korean American Coalition is a nonprofit organization established to promote the civic and civil rights interests of the Korean American community.
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
