Akin Named a Top Workplace by The Washington Post; Tony Pierce Again Wins Leadership Award
The Washington Post has again recognized Akin’s Washington, D.C. office as one of the top 10 Large Employers in the city in its Top Workplaces series. Tony Pierce, the partner in charge of the D.C. office, has once again been named the top leader in the large organizations category.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that the D.C. office has been featured on the Top Workplaces list, and the second time Tony has received this individual honor. The Post’s rankings, inclusive of 250 companies, are based solely on employee feedback gathered through an anonymous third-party survey, measuring several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution and connection.
Highlights from Tony’s published Q&A include his views on:
- Corporate responsibility: “If you are in a community, as a business, and you are benefiting from your location, you need to give back to it.”
- Representation and mentorship: Reflecting on the influence of the late longtime Akin partner Vernon Jordan, he said, “I knew there was a partner in the firm that looked like me, that had a lot of stroke. I followed in his footsteps a little bit… I try to do is be a role model for [junior lawyers].”
- Professional growth: “Giving back to the community, helping clients find partner relationships, maintaining client relationships — all of that is called taking ownership.” Tony also emphasized the collective nature of success: “Nobody gets successful alone. Nobody gets ahead by themselves. Everybody has had help.”
