Asian-MENA Counsel Recognizes Akin Gump for Three “Deals of the Year”
(Hong Kong) – Asian-MENA Counsel has named three deals on which Akin Gump advised as Deals of the Year for 2017.
In May of last year, the firm advised the Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) and its parent, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Company (ADWEC), in the development and financing of the Sweihan Solar photovoltaic (PV) project. It was the largest single project of its kind in the world, offering one of the lowest-ever tariffs for a utility-scale PV project. (Click here to read more about other honors the deal has received.)
Chadi Salloum, co-partner in charge of Akin Gump’s Abu Dhabi office; Daniel Sinaiko, co-head of the firm’s global project finance practice; and Edward Zaelke, a partner in the global project finance practice, led the Akin Gump deal team.
Last June, Akin Gump served as counsel to the creditors’ committee in the EMAS Chiyoda Subsea restructuring. EMAS is a joint venture between Singapore-based Ezra Holdings Ltd. and Chiyoda Corp. and NYK Lines of Japan. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2017. Financial restructuring partners Charles Gibbs and Sarah Schultz led the team working on the matter.
Finally, in December 2017, Akin Gump advised a group of convertible bondholders in PT Bumi Resources’ $4.5 billion global debt restructuring. The matter was led by financial restructuring partner Naomi Moore.
