Biography Names Ileana Ros-Lehtinen a Pioneering Hispanic Woman
Biography has recognized Akin lobbying & public policy senior advisor and former Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen on its list of “14 Hispanic Women Who Are Pioneers in Their Field,” in honor of Women’s History Month.
The list celebrates “Latinas who have made history” and have “defied or redefined social, cultural, and gender stereotypes.” Ileana is honored among several remarkable Hispanic women, including Frida Kahlo, Sonia Sotomayor and Gloria Estefan.
According to her profile, Ileana was the first Latina elected to the Florida House of Representatives, continuing her “groundbreaking streak” by becoming the first Latina to serve in the Florida State Senate and as the first Latina and first Cuban-American to serve in Congress.
Ileana was also selected by USA Today for its list of the Women of the Century, which recognized “100 women who have significantly impacted their communities and country, and have a documented record of success” in fields such as politics; sports; entertainment; science, medicine and education; and civil rights.
