Bryce Harlow Foundation Honors Joel Jankowsky
(Washington, D.C.) – The Bryce Harlow Foundation has honored Joel Jankowsky with the Business-Government Relations Award in recognition of his lifelong leadership in the advocacy profession. The Award is presented annually to a lobbyist who, during the course of a career, has been an exemplary role model.
The Award was presented on March 24 at the 29th Annual Bryce Harlow Award Dinner in Washington, D.C. Akin Gump’s Vernon Jordan provided the introductory remarks.
Mr. Jankowsky began his career in public service, serving as a captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps from 1968 to 1972. He spent the next five years on Capitol Hill as legislative assistant to the Honorable Carl Albert, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Mr. Jankowsky joined Akin Gump in Washington in 1977 and is now one of three senior executive partners at the firm. He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and its law school.
“Joel Jankowsky has long promoted the Foundation’s mission of enhancing the quality of professional advocacy and increasing the understanding of its essential role in the development of sound public policy,” said Linda Dooley, president of the Bryce Harlow Foundation. “A true believer in civic engagement, he has worked tirelessly to serve as a mentor and create opportunities for young professionals interested in a career in government relations. We are extremely pleased to honor him.”
Active in numerous civic and community programs, Mr. Jankowsky chairs the board of directors of the Close Up Foundation, serves on the board of directors of the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C., and serves on the board of advisors of the Carl Albert Center at the University of Oklahoma. He is a sustaining director of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. In addition to recognizing Mr. Jankowsky, the Foundation honored Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) with the Bryce Harlow Award.
