Diversity Journal Profiles Michelle Chan, Shiva Aminian for Women Worth Watching in Leadership Award

Akin private equity partner Michelle Chan and international trade partner and co-head of the firm’s technology group Shiva Aminian are featured in Profiles in Diversity Journal’s latest issue as Women Worth Watching in Leadership Award honorees.

In her profile, Michelle reflects on a pivotal moment during a college panel discussion that empowered her to take ownership of her career path. Michelle also highlights the value of mentorship in the legal profession and her commitment to guiding others by continuing “to pay it forward by giving the next generation time, mentorship and patience that others gave and continue to give to me.”

Shiva’s profile addresses the impact of subconscious bias and how it can affect young lawyers. She also emphasizes the crucial role that mentors can play. “A younger attorney’s success depends largely in part by the training an attorney receives,” says Shiva. “Does the younger attorney have a strong mentor who is willing to devote the time and energy to teach the tricks-of-the-trade? Is that mentor willing to allow room for mistakes and improvement?” she adds. Expressing her hopes for those who follow her path, Shiva notes that “as more diverse attorneys step into leadership roles, they will play a critical role in mentoring and ensuring the success of the next generation.”
