Eric Muñoz Honored with Houston Bar Association Diversity Award
Akin corporate partner Eric Muñoz has been recognized by Houston Bar Association (HBA) as one of two individual recipients of its 2023 HBA Diversity Awards.
The awards honor “outstanding law firms and individuals in recognition of their diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the legal profession.”
In its press release announcing the honorees, the HBA noted Eric’s mentorship efforts, specifically through the University of Houston Law Center’s Pre-Law Pipeline Program, and also described Eric’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts within the firm’s Houston office, including serving as chair of Akin’s Houston office’s DEI Committee and spearheading the office’s DEI network and presence among firm offices and minority-focused organizations in Texas.
Eric is quoted on DEI, stating, “Increasing DEI awareness and engaging in DEI efforts are essential to building more productive teams that bring different viewpoints together and whose members contribute to meeting goals and solving problems.” He added, “Responsibility and privilege are not often used to describe the same action, but for me, engaging in DEI efforts is both, and when that responsibility and privilege is recognized by your peers, that is a real honor.”
Eric received his award at the 2023 HBA DEI Summer Associate Luncheon event at the Marriott Marquis Houston on July 26, 2023.
Last year, Eric was selected as an Outstanding Diversity Champion by Houston Business Journal (learn more here).
The HBA is one of the largest metropolitan bar associations in the country, serving more than 10,000 member attorneys in “the most diverse city in the U.S.”
