For Seventh Year in a Row, Akin Gump Named to NLJ Appellate Hot List
For the seventh consecutive year, The National Law Journal has named Akin Gump to its Appellate Hot List. The list recognizes “firms with outstanding achievements before the U.S. Supreme Court, federal circuit courts and state courts of last resort.”
Among the successes featured in NLJ’s profile of the practice are:
- the firm’s victory before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in the closely watched Medicare reimbursement case Allina Health Services et al. v. Kathleen Sebelius
- a favorable ruling that held that Starbucks did not violate New York state law by allowing shift supervisors to participate in tip pools
- a 5th Circuit whistleblower case in which Akin Gump represented Planned Parenthood pro bono.
Akin Gump’s Supreme Court and appellate practice, co-led by Washington, D.C. partner Pratik Shah and Los Angeles partner Rex Heinke, is nationally recognized as comprising exceptionally experienced and respected figures in the courtroom. In the past year, it shared in the recognition accorded the firm’s litigation group as Akin Gump was named a finalist in The American Lawyer’s “Litigation Department of the Year” competition (learn more here).
