For the Sixth-Straight Year, Akin Gump Named to Appellate Hot List
(Washington, D.C.) – The National Law Journal has named Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP to its Appellate Hot List for the sixth year in a row. The list recognizes the achievements of firms “doing killer appellate work before the Supreme Court, federal circuit courts of appeal and state courts of last resort.”
Among the successes that NLJ featured in its profile of the practice are the Federal Circuit’s reversal of a District Court injunction preventing Akin Gump client Amphastar Pharmaceuticals from marketing its generic drug enoxaparin, a 4th Circuit affirmation of a $21 million judgment in a precedent-setting human rights pro bono case, a victory for the National Football League before the Ninth Circuit involving more than 1,000 workers compensation claims brought by players and the player’s union, and a 2nd Circuit victory for client Starbucks in a case involving pro-union buttons and the company dress code as well as in a matter involving an employee’s use of obscenities in front of customers.
Akin Gump’s appellate practice, co-led by Washington, D.C. partner and Supreme Court practice head Patricia Millett and Los Angeles partner Rex Heinke, is nationally recognized for its exceptionally experienced and respected figures in the courtroom. Over the past year, the practice was named as among the “Top Appellate Practices” in California by the Recorder, Ms. Millett was named as one of the “100 Most Influential Lawyers in America” by The National Law Journal and an “Appellate MVP” by Law360, and Mr. Heinke was named by California Lawyer as one of its Attorneys of the Year.
