John Burke Selected as a THR Power Lawyer for Seventh Straight Year
(Los Angeles) – The Hollywood Reporter has named John Burke to its Power Lawyers “definitive list of the best in the business” for the seventh time out of the seven years the recognitions have been awarded. The Power Lawyers list comprises the 100 most influential entertainment attorneys in the United States in the categories of talent, litigation and corporate.
Burke, who heads Akin Gump’s entertainment and media practice, is recognized as “[o]ne of Hollywood’s top finance lawyers.” Among the marquee engagements noted by THR are his management of 250 films in a major independent distributor's film library," legal oversight of Dune Capital Management’s $600 million production and distribution arrangement with Fox…and Bank of America’s participation in a $1.2 billion credit facility for Village Roadshow to co-finance Warner Bros. movies.”
The “key deal” for The Hollywood Reporter was Burke’s representation of Bank of America and JP Morgan in a credit facility that allowed a 50 percent interest acquisition in CSI by Content Partners from Goldman Sachs. As the profile states, “Every one of the entities on both sides of the deal are Akin Gump clients, notes Burke, ‘so it shows what a small world it has become.’”
