P. John Burke, Marissa Román Griffith Picked Among THR’s Top Hollywood Dealmakers
(Los Angeles) – Akin Gump entertainment practice head P. John Burke and partner Marissa Román Griffith have been included in The Hollywood Reporter’s list of “Hollywood’s Top 20 Dealmakers of 2016,” which recognizes the U.S. movie capital’s “upper echelon of bankers, lawyers and business development executives.”
The published profile notes Mr. Burke’s representation of CIT Bank in one of the largest indie film financings ever—Luc Besson’s $180 million Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets—and Ms. Román Griffith’s work with Media Rights Capital, including MRC’s cofinancing deal for Sony’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. THR also spotlights both lawyers’ representation of a client that is investing in a slate of TV programs featuring prominent producers.
Mr. Burke is quoted as saying, “The business is getting more and more complex, and that plays into our sweet spot.”
Most recently, he and Ms. Román Griffith, along with partner Christopher Spicer and senior counsel Alissa Miller (who worked closely with Mr. Burke on the Valerian financing) were recognized by Variety in December for its Dealmakers Impact Report, featuring “the people behind the most important entertainment industry deals of the past 12 months” (learn more here). In October 2016, counsel Vanessa Roman was selected by Variety as one of its “2016 New Leaders.” Additional information on her selection can be found here.
