Variety Names Spicer, Griffith, Miller, Roman Among Hollywood’s ‘Top Dealmakers’
Akin is pleased to share that Variety has named four media & entertainment partners to the 2023 edition of its Legal Impact Report. Practice head Chris Spicer and partners Marissa Román Griffith, Alissa Miller and Vanessa Roman returned to the list after recognitions in 2021 and 2020 (learn more here and here).
The published profile (which can be read here), in “Variety’s Legal Impact Report 2023: Meet Hollywood’s Top Entertainment Dealmakers and Litigators,” notes that they worked $3.5 billion in film, TV, digital media, music and videogame transactions for clients such as:
- Media Rights Capital on multiple matters, including licensing the film Fair Play for a reported $20 million at a Sundance Film Festival auction.
- Bank of America, including an ongoing senior secured revolving credit facility to Blumhouse and a $100 million credit facility for Electric Entertainment.
- Comerica Bank for a multimillion-dollar credit facility to Bryon Allen’s Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures affiliate and a production loan for STX and Michael Mann’s movie Ferrari.
- JPMorgan Chase Securities in its $82 million production loan for season two of Power Book IV: Force.
Other clients noted by Variety include East West Bank, HPS Investment Partners and MUFG Bank.
Marissa noted that, in the digital age, “anyone and anything can be turned into content that then can be monetized,” including TikTok vignettes, videogames and output from digital influencers.
