On September 22, 2021, the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued preliminary cross-sector cybersecurity performance goals and objectives for critical infrastructure control systems. CISA developed these goals and objectives—which are currently voluntary—in coordination with the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) after an “initial crosswalk of available control system resources and recommended practices . . . produced by the government and the private sector.”
