U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) have formed a DDTC Import Working Group. The Working Group will provide input on data elements related to imports and exports of defense articles that DDTC will require importers and exporters to submit through the “single window initiative,” known as the International Trade Data System. In 2014, President Obama issued an executive order directing the development and completion of the single window initiative, as a means of streamlining the import and export process for America’s businesses. Upon full implementation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and CBP single window initiative will allow importers and exporters to submit, through one online portal, all of the data that CBP, and any other partner government agency, require for the import or export of goods. DDTC and CBP hope to obtain representation from a wide array of industry stakeholders in the Working Group, including entities whose activities are regulated by DDTC, as well as trade software developers. Personnel from DDTC and CBP will also participate. CBP has informed us that interested participants may attend the next working group session on April 23, 2015. Interested participants should email Frank Korpusik (CBP) at frank.j.korpusik@cbp.dhs.gov.
