During the last quarter of 2022 or in early 2023, the Unified Patent Court (UPC) is expected to officially open its doors in Europe. A patent-specific court established by 24 participating European Union (EU) member states, the UPC seeks to enhance legal certainty and decrease the need for parallel litigation. Once open, the UPC will have authority to adjudicate both Unitary and European Patents. In this post, we discuss the key considerations in preparation for the UPC opening.
