Management Information Exchange Journal has published the article “Avoiding Ethical Traps in the Midst of Chaos — Practicing Law Ethically in a Pandemic,” written by Akin Gump assistant general counsel for ethics Elizabeth Simon.

The article discusses some of the ethical challenges that may arise when working from home. It also addresses some of the common issues and questions regarding avoiding the unauthorized practice of law, being competent amid changing technology, and communicating securely and confidentially “when your home office may also be your child’s classroom.”

Simon writes that, while the COVID-19 pandemic “has disrupted many aspects of the practice of law,” lawyers need to be aware “that their ethical obligations are the same whether they are working at home, on the road, or in the office.”
