(London) – In July 2022, the U.K. government published a policy paper outlining early proposals for what its regulatory framework in respect of artificial intelligence (AI) might look like. The development follows the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy published in September 2021, which specified AI regulation as a U.K. governmental priority.

In an article published by Law360 titled “Examining UK’s Proposals for New AI Regulatory Framework,” Akin Gump partner Davina Garrod, counsel Jenny Arlington and associate Alexander Armytage consider what insight the early-stage proposals give regarding the U.K. government’s likely approach to regulating AI, noting some significant departures from the EU’s own approach to AI regulation.

Akin Gump counsel Mark Gleeson and Alan Martin Hayes, and partners Natasha Kohne and Michelle Reed, contributed to this article.
