WASHINGTON, D.C., December 1, 2022 – Akin Gump today announced that energy regulatory partner Emily Mallen has joined the firm’s Washington D.C. office as a partner on its energy team. Ms. Mallen has experience advising natural gas, oil and products pipeline clients in U.S. federal regulatory and transactional matters, including matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. She joins from Sidley Austin.
Ms. Mallen said of the move, “Akin Gump is a leader in guiding clients through cutting-edge energy transactions. I’m excited to put my experience across the energy regulatory landscape to work for our clients and to build on the momentum of Akin Gump’s strategic expansion in the energy space.”
Ms. Mallen has extensive experience across all aspects of a pipeline’s regulatory lifecycle. Her practice also includes regulatory issues arising in connection with liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, gathering facilities and processing plants. She advises clients participating in the energy transition through the transportation of sustainable fuels by pipeline, including renewable and responsibly sourced natural gas and buy/sell agreements on interstate and intrastate oil and liquids pipelines.
Ms. Mallen represents the latest in a series of high-profile additions to Akin Gump’s energy practice—including Steve Hug, Ike Emehelu, Alex Harrison, Matt Hardwick and Dan Giemajner—that position the firm as a leader in transactions supporting the energy transition.
Zachary Wittenberg, co-head of the firm’s corporate practice noted, “Emily is a leader renowned for her ability to help clients navigate today’s complex regulatory environment. She represents our continued investment in our energy practice and further enables us to advise clients as they participate in the next generation of the energy economy.”
