Los Angeles real estate publication The Real Deal and national legal outlet Law360 have covered the suit by Relevant Group, represented by Akin Gump, against L.A. real estate broker and developer Saeed Nourmand, his son and their companies.

The suit accuses Nourmand of bringing sham California Environmental Quality Act suits against Relevant in an attempt to extort millions of dollars. As the complaint states, “[D]efendants…threaten competing developers that if they do not accede to defendants’ exorbitant demands, defendants will bombard them with frivolous environmental litigation,” noting that defendant had once said, “You know the drill. It’s going to take a check to make this go away.”

Relevant Group asserts that this extortion scheme violates the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

Akin Gump litigation partner Susan Leader and associate Joshua Rubin are representing the Relevant Group in this matter.
