Akin Gump Team Serves as Contributing Editors of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Roadmap
Contact:
Akin Gump communications partner Jennifer Richter has served as a contributing editor for Standardization Roadmap for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Version 2.0, prepared by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative. Joining her were senior policy advisor Cliff Sweatte and intellectual property partner David Vondle.
Version 1.0 of the Roadmap was published in December 2018. Version 2.0 identifies existing standards and standards in development, assesses gaps, and makes recommendations for priority areas where there is a perceived need for additional standardization and/or pre-standardization research and development. The goal, according to the ANSI, is that the roadmap will be broadly adopted by the standards community and that it will facilitate a more coherent and coordinated approach to the future development of standards for unmanned aircraft systems.
Akin Gump maintains a robust practice advising companies in the unmanned aerial space. In March of this year, Ms. Richter was interviewed for a feature piece in Corporate Counsel Business Journal where she discussed the current environment for unmanned aerial vehicles, including the growing regulatory landscape around the technology and the joint effort that will be needed to move it forward.
