The Am Law Litigation Daily’s “Litigation Leaders” column has featured the head of Akin Gump’s litigation practice in the Q&A article “Akin Gump’s Steve Baldini on Opposition Research, Working Remotely and Long-Term Growth.”
Baldini, who represents clients in federal and cross-border litigation and arbitrations, discussed a range of topics. Asked to describe the areas of Akin Gump’s litigation practice with the deepest bench, Baldini highlighted the firm’s white collar, bankruptcy litigation and complex class actions work. In addition, he noted the strong Supreme Court and appellate practice and the work of its co-head Pratik Shah, “who has argued 15 Supreme Court cases.”
Baldini then touched on some of his goals or priorities for the practice. “First and foremost,” he said, “is attracting and retaining the best and the brightest lawyers who are a strategic and cultural fit for our firm.” He also pointed to “the development and nurturing of diverse young talent” as a key focus.
Other areas that Baldini addressed included:
- How he and the litigation team are dealing with the economic downturn.
- Recent lateral partners who have joined the practice.
- Some of the team’s biggest in-court wins in the past year.
- Some tactics that exemplify the firm’s approach to litigating cases.
