Jenny Walters, counsel in Akin Gump’s litigation practice in Dallas, is quoted in the Austin Business Journal discussing the firm’s pro bono work on behalf of supporters of a proposed day to recognize the contributions that American Indians have made to Texas.
Walters notes that recognition for the many American Indians in the state is “long overdue.” The Texas Legislature is considering a bill that would designate the last Friday in September American Indian Heritage Day. According to the Business Journal, Texas has the fourth-largest number of Native Americans in the United States.
