For its article “Deepfake Political Ads Are ‘Wild West’ for Campaign Lawyers,” Bloomberg Law quoted Akin senior political law counsel and consultant Ken Gross. The article looks at the growing concern among political lawyers about the use of deepfake technology powered by artificial intelligence, or AI, in political ads during election campaigns.

According to the article, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) has requested public comments on possible deepfake regulation. Ken suggests that any forthcoming regulations or laws will likely occur due to a bad AI ad on the market. He says, “I’m not optimistic, at all optimistic on the prospects of imminent regulation from Congress or the FEC.”
