Bloomberg, in its article “How Music Venues Convinced Congress to Save Live Entertainment,” quoted Akin Gump senior policy advisor Casey Higgins regarding the path to obtaining bipartisan support for the passage of the Save Our Stages Act on behalf of the National Independent Venue Association and National Association of Theatre Owners.
In the article, the publication noted that Higgins understood the challenge of securing bipartisan support for this bill from the beginning. She said, “I knew we had our work cut out to get people on the Hill to know who they were, to get our message across, to cut through the noise of all of the other industries suffering from Covid.”
The article notes that the key to unlocking full support from the House and Senate was Higgins’ focus on small business and economic recovery, noting that “the industry had been one of the very hardest-hit by the pandemic, with music venues ‘first to close, last to re-open,’ as many owners experienced 90-100% revenue loss since March.”
