Akin Gump public law and policy counsel Chris Treanor was quoted by POLITICO for its article “K Street scrambles after Manchin’s latest stunner.” The article discusses lobbying efforts revitalized by Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on a previously stalled $700 billion climate, tax and health care bill.
Said Treanor, “There's certainly a lot of conversations about strategies to effect any changes that can be made between now on the Senate floor vote.” He also said that, like others in the nation’s capital, he is waiting to hear from Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) as to any pressure points in the bill.
Treanor added that, on the climate side, stakeholders are digesting the plan’s electric vehicle tax credit items, noting that, since the Democrat’s most recent proposal, there has been a “pretty dramatic” change in the criteria to quality for the tax credits, so “I think that's something that folks will be digesting and trying to figure out how it affects their companies and industries.”
