Akin lobbying & public policy partner Clete Willems was interviewed on CNBC’s Squawk Box Asia for the segment “Biden’s executive order targeting investments in China just the ‘tip of the iceberg,’ says law firm.” The segment discusses President Biden’s August 9 Executive Order on Addressing United States Investments In Certain National Security Technologies And Products In Countries Of Concern.
“Reaction from Congress was generally supportive of this action as a first step,” he said, “but that was coupled with the concept that more needed to be done…even though yesterday was small, it was probably only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we’re going to see.”
He pointed to passive investment and enhancement of existing U.S. sanctions on individual Chinese companies as two areas that Congress would want to pursue further.
