Eight Akin Gump Attorneys Promoted to Partnership

(New York) – Akin Gump today announced the election of eight new partners, effective January 1. The eight individuals and their respective office locations are Robert James Boller (New York), Brian T. Carney (New York), Lisa Leiman Hearn (London), Ryan M. Katz (New York), Meredith A. Lahaie (New York), Daniel J. Paulos (New York), Matthew A. Pearson (Philadelphia) and Svetlana Anatolievna Volevich (Moscow).

Mr. Boller is a member of the firm’s litigation practice. He represents companies, partnerships and individuals in a variety of litigation and criminal/regulatory matters, with a particular focus on disputes arising out of complex financial transactions. Mr. Boller received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2005 and his B.A. from Fordham University in 1999.

Mr. Carney is a member of the firm’s litigation practice, representing private equity funds, hedge funds and their portfolio companies in a variety of civil litigation matters. He also represents creditors and creditors’ committees in bankruptcy-related litigation. In addition, he has extensive experience in gaming regulatory matters. Mr. Carney received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Tulane University Law School in 2005 and his B.S. from Northwestern University in 2002.

As a member of the firm’s corporate practice, Ms. Hearn focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and U.S. securities law. Her recent work includes representations in the telecommunications, oil and gas, and financial services sectors. Ms. Hearn received her J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 2004 and her B.A. from Duke University in 2000.

Mr. Katz is a member of the firm’s tax practice. He works with clients on a variety of domestic and international corporate transactions, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, private equity and hedge fund investments, venture capital transactions, debt financings, joint ventures, strategic alliances and corporate restructurings. Mr. Katz received his J.D. with honors from Emory University School of Law in 2001 and his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1998.

Ms. Lahaie represents debtors, creditors and bondholders in large, complex chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings as a member of the firm’s financial restructuring practice. Her experience spans several industries, including pulp and paper, publishing, diversified financial services, homebuilding and construction, specialty chemicals, television broadcasting and energy. Ms. Lahaie received her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2005 and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Tufts University in 2002.

Mr. Paulos is a member of the firm’s tax practice and advises on a broad range of U.S. and international tax matters, with a focus on planning and structuring complex cross-border transactions. He also regularly provides advice on the formation and operation of hedge and private equity funds. Mr. Paulos received his J.D. from Harvard University in 2005 and his B.A. from Yale University in 2000.

Dr. Pearson, who holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Cornell University, is a member of the firm’s intellectual property practice. As a patent litigator, he works on cases in a range of technologies, including antibody therapies, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, biotechnology and medical devices. Dr. Pearson received his J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2005 and his B.S. with high honors from Michigan State University in 1993.

Ms. Volevich is a member of the firm’s corporate practice. She represents oil and gas and telecommunications companies on matters involving litigation, securities regulations, mergers and acquisitions, employment and general corporate matters. Ms. Volevich received her LL.M. from the University of Texas School of Law in 2009, her J.D. from Moscow State Law Academy in 2004 and her B.A. from Moscow State Linguistic University in 1999.
