Global Banking Regulation Review has published the article “China fintech - the beginning of a new regulatory era?” Originally published as an Akin Gump client alert, the authors are partners Matthew Puhar, Davina Garrod and Daniel Cohen; counsel Sonia Lor, Jingli Jiang and Steven Franklin; and associates Calvin Ng and Janice Wong.

The article outlines “the recent potentially seismic shifts in the Fintech regulatory landscape affecting the regulation and commercial business model of China’s online micro-lending company (MLC) sector.” The authors discuss some of the key provisions of the draft MLC regulations and also examine what their impact on MLCs might be.

The article concludes with a look at other aspects of Fintech regulation, including the draft Anti-monopoly Guidelines that are aimed at “strengthening the regulation of internet/platform economy businesses in China.”
