Akin Gump litigation partner Parvin Moyne has been quoted in Global Investigations Review’s article “Defense lawyers sense increase in enforcement activity.”
The article discusses how, although federal enforcement activity had slowed down during the pandemic, investigations are now moving forward again.
Moyne, a member of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force while an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, noted that enforcement agencies are now requesting information in a way that they had not done during the pandemic, adding that enforcers are following up on subpoenas and requesting presentations from defense counsel: “There was a period of time before where you wouldn’t hear for weeks or months. They weren’t pushing for things. It felt slow. The government was letting the pace slow down. Now they are saying, ‘We want the information.’”
She added that there’s a “feeling that new investigations are starting,” noting that she had recently gotten two new Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matters after a lull in new matters.
Moyne noted that colleagues are also telling her that the government is calling them, and that they are getting calls for new matters.
She attributes this revival to the arrival of a new administration, which has pumped fresh energy into enforcement.
