“New EU dual-use goods regulations present headache for exporters,” an interview featuring Akin Gump international trade partners Jasper Helder and Chiara Klaui, has been published by Global Trade Review.

The article discusses the publication, on June 11, by the European Union, of new regulations on the regime for export controls of dual-use goods, which it characterizes as the first major reform to the EU’s export control regime structure in 12 years, modernizing the EU’s dual-use goods regulations to account for new technologies.

The article notes that Helder and Klaui consider the rule changes a “missed opportunity” that will result in greater uncertainty for exporters. The Q&A covers the background of the revision of the dual-use regulation, issues presented to exporters by the new regulation, and ways in which exporters can address the uncertainty created.
