Thomson Reuters’ Westlaw has published “Contracting oversight: One of the most bipartisan, partisan issues in Washington,” an article by Akin Gump congressional investigations practice co-head Raphael Prober and litigation partner Scott Heimberg and counsel Tom Moyer.
The article looks at the question of congressional investigation and oversight of government contractors and the possible impact on investigations of the 2018 midterm elections.
The authors discuss the history of congressional investigations of private contractors in the modern era and the impact that electoral shifts have on contracting issues and offer five ways in which contractors can prepare for a congressional investigation.
They conclude by noting that, irrespective of the specific outcomes of these upcoming elections, “congressional investigations of government contracting are certain to remain a constant.” That said, should the Democrats retake the House and focus on this issue, “contractors are well advised to take early steps to prepare.”
