Journal of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & Law has published the article “New Proposed EU AI Regulation Extends Beyond Europe,” written by Akin Gump partner Justin Williams; cybersecurity, privacy and data protection practice co-heads Natasha Kohne and Michelle Reed; and counsel Jenny Arlington. Originating as an Akin Gump client alert, it discusses key elements in the European Commission’s draft Regulation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) that may be of interest to businesses.

The authors write that the draft regulation “is of key importance to users and providers of AI, not only because it is the first attempt at comprehensive regulation of AI but also because it may well become the global standard.” While the impact on business will take some time to be felt, they say, “there is already concern as to the regulatory burden.”

The article then proceeds to lay out some areas in the draft regulation of which businesses should be aware.
