Rafi Prober, co-head of Akin’s congressional investigations practice is featured in Jewish Journal’s article “Journey to Justice: The Untold Story of Holocaust Survivors and Their Battle Against SNCF.”
The article recounts Akin’s pro bono representation of hundreds of Holocaust survivors who sought justice against Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF), France’s national railway company, for transporting 76,000 Jews and thousands of others toward German death camps.
At a fireside chat in Los Angeles, Rafi and Holocaust survivor Rosette Goldstein spoke about their shared pursuit of justice, and their years of work alongside the late Leo Bretholz, also a Holocaust survivor.
Bretholz died months before an agreement was reached for France to pay $60 million in compensation to Holocaust survivors in the United States in December 2014.
“It’s one of the cases the firm is most proud of. It was such an important one for such important clients. It was sort of a singular moment in time, and it was an honor, honestly,” Rafi said.
The firm’s pro bono work on the case is also the subject of the podcast Covering Their Tracks.
