Bruynes participated in the podcast series Top Traders Round Table, sponsored by financial market company CME Group, to discuss, along with his fellow interviewees (collectively characterized by the host as the “A-Team in this industry”), the organization of the managed futures industry, its origins, its key players the role that regulators play in ensuring a level playing field.
In the first installment of the series, Bruynes discussed, among other topics, his experience entering the industry; the U.S. regulatory landscape at the federal level, primarily the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) working in conjunction with the National Futures Association (NFA); the U.S. landscape vis-à-vis market participants; the advent of hedge fund registration in the early 2000s and the CFTC’s abolition of the all-qualified-purchasers exemption to registration; the key players on the U.S. side; and managed futures as a portfolio hedge.
In part two, Bruynes spoke about various regulations pertaining to fund managers, including those associated with advertising; the importance of cybersecurity; the way that cryptocurrencies have changed the way people trade; and some of the best things that have happened to managed futures over the past two decades as well as what the future might hold.
