“Retail Artificial Intelligence and Extended Reality: Operational and Legal Trends,” an article by Akin Gump litigation partner Kathryn Deal, corporate partner Courtney York and international trade counsel Emily Fuller Opp has been published by U.K. tech publication TechRegister.

The article discusses how the retail industry—Deal is a co-leader of the firm’s retail industry initiative, and all three lawyers are also members of the firm’s retail practice—is at the “forefront of innovative uses of artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented, virtual and extended reality (XR).” The authors believe that AI and XR tools can increase business efficiency and opportunity, even as they enable retails to provide customized customer interactions and convenience.

The article then discusses the increased adoption of AI and XR technologies as retail use cases expand, as well as increased investment in retail-specific AI and XR.
