Law360 has published a profile of Akin Gump’s Dallas office following a recent string of noteworthy lateral partners who have joined this year.
The article features the arrivals of corporate partners Wesley Williams and Jessica Hammons in April, in addition to partners Jesse Betts and Cole Bredthauer.
Dallas office partner in charge Scott Barnard told Law360 that Akin Gump has always had a strong corporate practice, and that investment funds, financial restructuring and cybersecurity are among the busiest for the office, which also includes strong litigation and intellectual property teams. In addition, Barnard said Akin Gump’s history in Dallas, where the firm was founded in 1945 and now has more than 90 lawyers, is a strategic advantage for the firm. “With Akin Gump having strong roots in Texas and starting in Texas, we have client relationships that go back decades,” Barnard added. “So our roots are a lot stronger than a lot of the kind of firms that you see popping up and joining the market.”
The article also highlights recent deals that lawyers in Akin Gump’s Dallas office have handled in the past year, including 7-Eleven's $21 billion acquisition of Speedway and Diamondback Energy’s $2.2 billion acquisition of QEP Resources.
Akin Gump moved into its current Uptown Dallas location in early 2019. To learn more, please click here. For a virtual tour of the office, please click here.
