Law360 has published the article “Cos. Can Expect Tougher Climate Risk Disclosure Mandates,” written by Akin Gump public law and policy counsel Christopher Treanor, and environment and natural resources consultant Kenneth Markowitz and associate Bryan Williamson. They were joined by corporate partner Lucas Torres and senior practice attorney Cynthia Angell and environment and natural resources associate Jack Lyman.
The article discusses the Climate Risk Disclosure Act (CDRA), a bill that would require every public company to issue climate-related financial disclosures, and looks at how it “aims to accelerate the promulgation of rules to require public companies to disclose climate risk information and their strategies to mitigate and build resilience to those risks.”
If the CDRA becomes law, the authors write, “public companies and in-house counsel will need to build effective and efficient systems to track and evaluate climate data, and disclose it in a sensible manner that minimizes reputational and legal risk.”
