For its article “Hispanic Representation: How BigLaw Can Do Better,” Law360 quoted Akin Gump counsel Eduardo Canales on mentoring at Akin Gump.

Among initiatives Akin Gump has in place to attract and retain diverse attorneys, the article notes, the firm has created mentoring circles in which senior attorneys, paired with small groups of diverse associates, work with them to guide them in their careers.

Canales, who also serves as vice chair of the firm’s Latinx firm resource group, said, “We wanted to create a support system to make sure once we identified and recruited the right talent, we were able to help them develop and succeed.”

Akin Gump is commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15, in a number of ways, including offering educational programs and discussions to firm lawyers, staff and alumni. Also, throughout the month, the firm is publishing brief Q&As with Latinx lawyers, staff and alumni through its LinkedIn page.
