Akin Gump corporate partner Lisa Hearn is quoted in InsideCounsel’s Women, Influence & Power in Law Network discussing a deal in which she was part of a team advising on the first international bond offering from Bangladesh.
As the article notes, Hearn and fellow corporate partner Fred Heller counseled Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd., a subsidiary of VimpelCom Ltd., on a $300 million Rule 144A/Regulation S high-yield bond offering. The Senior Notes due 2019, which were listed on the Singapore Exchange, represent the first time that a Bangladeshi sovereign bond or corporate bond issue has been listed on the international capital markets.
Hearn told the publication that the Akin Gump team, “needed to ensure that the regulators were comfortable with how international markets work, especially with regards to documentation, roadshows, pricing and settlement.” It was particularly critical, she added, that the transaction and documentation were structured “to meet the timing requirements of the international capital markets and still fit within Bangladesh’s established investment and currency control regimes.”
