MLex has quoted Akin Gump partner Davina Garrod in the article “Comment: UK’s Competition and Markets Authority leaving adolescence, becoming more serious threat to US deals,” which reports that U.S. corporations and investors not paying attention to the maturation of the UK’s antitrust regulator do so at their own peril.
With the United Kingdom set to leave the European Union at the end of the month, the article notes, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will soon begin to review all manner of international mergers. In preparation, it has been beefing up its antitrust resources.
Speaking of the growing clout of the CMA, Garrod said it is, “a world-class competition authority, which will, post-Brexit, investigate more global mergers with UK effects, alongside the DOJ/FTC, the EC and other major authorities.”
