Akin Gump senior policy advisor Julie Nolan was quoted by National Journal for its article on health issues if Republicans take the House in November. The article notes they may plan to overhaul the broader health care policy conversation from drug prices, to health care coverage regulations.
Nolan who served as deputy chief of staff and legislative director to Rep. Patrick Meehan (R-PA) said “some of these issues will also be places where Democrats could potentially work with Republicans, which will be important.” Nolan explains, “Because I think Republicans understand the political reality that in order to do these things—foster medical innovation, address health care affordability—60 votes in the Senate are going to be required as well as support from the White House.”
The article notes that under a Republican-led House, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic could possibly be the center of investigations. “I think you’ll see oversight on the COVID-19 response in particular, because it’s certainly useful and necessary in informing responses to future pandemics,” Nolan said.
