Akin Gump Supreme Court and appellate partner James Tysse has been quoted in the WGN-TV NewsNation article “Politicians nationwide criticized after breaking rules they imposed during the pandemic.”

The article provides some recent examples of politicians who have violated their own rules about constituents wearing masks, social distancing or staying home because of the pandemic. The consequences of these actions, the article says, come down to state law, from which lawmakers are not exempt.

“That’s the American rule that no one is above the law,” said Tysse. “There might be certain state rules that exempt certain people. But for the most part, if the governor gets caught breaking the law, he or she is responsible for that crime just like anyone else.”
