Oleg Alexander Stolyar and Edward Woods, counsel and partner, respectively, in Akin Gump’s litigation practice, have co-authored the article “Industry Voices: Protecting Your Fashion Designs Before Employees Leave” for California Apparel News.

The article looks at ways in which clothing designers can protect their intellectual property from those who might want to steal their designs. Stolyar and Woods note that even though California prohibits virtually all non-compete agreements, “fashion designs may still be protected through properly drafted employment agreements.” The key, they point out, is the state’s trade-secret statute, and they outline how this can be done.
