Akin international trade partner Kevin Wolf speaks to Politico Pro Morning Technology and Reuters following the Biden Administration’s implementation of a new rule that will restrict U.S. companies from exporting quantum computers and other advanced technologies to other countries with exceptions for certain allies

"The most significant controls are the ones on quantum computers and related technology," Kevin tells Reuters.

Speaking with Politico, Kevin notes that this is the first time Washington has imposed comprehensive controls specific to quantum and that the restrictions are “novel” because they require a license worldwide “for not just [quantum] computers, but the parts for them and the technology and the software for them.”

Kevin, formerly an assistant secretary at Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, tells Reuters that the GAAFET controls will not apply to the design for the broader integrated circuit, only to the production of the GAAFET architecture.
