For its article “What K Street Is Watching For Tonight,” POLITICO quoted Akin Gump senior policy advisor Virgil Miller on what he expected to see in President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
Miller, who served for nearly 13 years in the U.S. House of Representatives in a variety of staff roles, said, “I think the biggest thing we'll be looking for is how the president … explains what the [Ukraine] crisis means for the average American and for American business, the impact of his actions to date.”
He said that he would be listening closely as to whether and how the President prepares the American public and American business for what may be down the road in terms of security and the economy. Miller stated that he expected the business community would also be watching for cues from the President on addressing Russia’s aggression.
Miller added that he expected the President would offer direction on his administration’s domestic priorities in the lead-up to this year’s midterm elections, particularly in the areas of health care, climate change and social policy.
